Views sought on draft patient safety alert for Non-Luer Spinal (Intrathecal) Devices for Chemotherapy and Lumbar Puncture

NHS England is seeking views on a draft patient safety alert from healthcare professionals, or anyone who has an interest in this area.

In order to further minimise the risk of wrong route errors guidance is provided that all spinal (intrathecal) chemotherapy bolus doses and lumbar puncture procedures should be performed using syringes and needles and other devices with non-Luer connectors that cannot connect with intravenous devices. We plan to issue this guidance as a Patient Safety Alert to be issued across the NHS.
