Lung volume reduction, policy proposition

Closed 27 Mar 2019

Opened 25 Feb 2019

Overview

NHS England has launched a 30 day consultation on a policy proposition for lung volume reduction.

Emphysema is one of a group of long-term lung diseases that form Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Emphysema causes damage to the air sacs in the lungs which can lead to them becoming over inflated, making it difficult to breathe. Lung volume reduction (LVR) is an approach which removes the worst affected areas of the diseased lung so that the healthier parts can work better.
