Lung volume reduction, policy proposition

Results updated 13 Mar 2020

Last year NHS England launched a 30 day consultation on lung volume reduction. The outcome of this consultation was to agree that this treatment should be considered further for routine commissioning, however when it was considered within the prioritisation process at the meeting of our Clinical Priorities Advisory Group (CPAG) in November 2019, it was not one of the treatments that we were able to fund at that time.

We are planning to consider this policy again at the next CPAG meeting in May 2020.

We have recently updated our CPAG process to include a full Equalities and Health Inequalities Impact Assessment (EHIA) as one of the papers that we share as part of the policy consultation, and as that paper was not included in the original consultation for this treatment, we are now sharing the EHIA for this policy proposition. We welcome any further feedback from stakeholders to ensure that we have fully captured all the health and health inequality issues for this treatment before it is considered as one of the final CPAG papers.

If you have any comments on the EHIA, please contact england.npoc-internalmedicine@nhs.net by 12 April 2020.
