Updating the National Genomic Test Directory

Overview

Stakeholders are invited to review the proposed approach to Updating the National Genomic Test Directory set out in the consultation document and provide feedback on the proposed approach to NHS England and NHS Improvement. 

Feedback is particularly invited on the following key topics:

1) Appropriate involvement of patients and the public throughout the process;
2) The proposed timelines for submission of applications; and 
3) Any potential impact the proposal may have on health equalities  

* Clarification: Updates to the National Genomic Test Directory for 2021/22

The National Genomic Test Directory consultation document notes on page 4, point 7, the proposed approach for updates to be made to the National Genomic Test Directory for 2021/22 which is incorrect. This new proposed process is expected to begin in full for the 2022/23 update to the Test Directory.

The consultation document states that the proposed application window for submissions for the National Genomic Test Directory for 2021/2022 will be September – November 2020. However, due to the timing of the publication of the consultation document this time has now passed.

NHS England and NHS Improvement will therefore follow an abridged process to that outlined in this document to update the Test Directory for 2021/22, and the timings will be amended. Instead of following the annual timescales presented in the main body of the consultation document, NHS England and NHS Improvement will implement a bespoke application window for the 2021/22 update which will be confirmed and communicated to stakeholders, along with all relevant documentation to facilitate the process, following the conclusion of the public consultation.
