Clinical commissioning policies consultation for: Surgery for pectus deformity

Closed 3 Sep 2018

Opened 3 Aug 2018

Overview

NHS England is seeking feedback regarding a clinical commissioning policy proposition for surgery for pectus deformities (all ages).

Pectus deformity is a term used to describe a group of conditions associated with the malformation of the chest wall. In most cases, a pectus deformity will be present at birth, however, it will usually only become obvious and visible during early adolescence, when growth is rapid. Diagnosis is made by physical examination.

In developing the policy proposition, NHS England commissioned two evidence reviews to ensure evidence for both surgical outcomes and psychological benefits were considered. The findings of these evidence reviews have informed the policy proposition and a link to both these evidence reviews can be found below.

Through the consultation, NHS England would like to get views from patients on the public on this policy proposition – particularly whether there is agreement with NHS England’s proposal based on the evidence that has been gathered, and whether there is agreement that the impact assessment fairly reflects the impact of this proposal.
