NHS Online: clinician survey

Overview

This survey is primarily aimed at clinical staff, including resident doctors, nurses and allied health professionals, though we welcome responses from all clinical workforce groups.

Its purpose is to collect insights into the availability and desire of clinicians (full time, part time, peri-retired and retired) to commit time to delivering care on behalf of NHS Online, alongside their substantive NHS employment/current role. It will also identify what is most likely to attract or deter them from doing so.

It is anticipated clinicians will work flexibly, committing a limited number of hours per week or month, in a time and place that suits them.

This survey should take you approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete and all information will be collected anonymously.

It follows a similar survey for consultants and specialty, associate specialist and specialist (SAS) doctors, published in October 2025

What NHS Online will offer and how it will work

NHS Online will transform how the NHS delivers care in a way that is faster, fairer and more flexible than ever before.

It will offer an expanding range of elective care services, virtually, as a choice for all patients across England. Virtual care means delivering clinical services remotely using digital technology, without the need for a patient to attend a physical location. This includes activities such as remote triage, online consultations and digital advice and guidance, all of which can be delivered from any location with an appropriate internet connection.

Care will be delivered remotely, on a national scale, by clinicians across the country who will have access to the latest technologies and innovations to support them to deliver standardised, and timely patient care.

Why your views matter

The insights collected in this survey will be explored further through a series of focus groups. Together this information will help inform NHS Online’s employment offer for the clinical workforce.
