GIRFT Pancreatic Cancer Review Pre Visit Questionnaire (Hubs)

Closes 11 Sep 2024

Opened 29 Nov 2023

Overview

NHS England Getting It Right First Time (NHSE GIRFT) would like to gain insight into the Pancreatic Cancer service and its delivery by multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) at surgical hubs and their referral sites ('spokes'), ahead of a Deep Dive.

The attached questionnaire complements the Provider and Network Level Reports (produced using centrally held data sources such as Hospital Episode Statistics). The questionnaire gives us a better understanding of the service offered by your Trust, including any successes you would like to share and challenges that you may have.

The questionnaire has been compiled around key themes including workforce; diagnostics; MDT and patient pathway; surgery; CNS, dietitians and additional services; and histopathology.

Our understanding of hub and spoke networks is based on responses to the network mapping mail circulated in August 2023.

The current questionnaire is for surgical hubs; a separate questionnaire will be circulated to all referring Trusts.

Ahead of completing this questionnaire it may be helpful for the respondent to review the questions and assemble the relevant data. Completing the questionnaire should then only take 10 to 15 minutes. A PDF version of the questionnaire is attached to enable you to undertake this review.

Should you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact Katie Cartwright, Project Manager, NHSE GIRFT Review of Pancreatic Cancer (k.cartwright6@nhs.net). Thank you in advance.

Why your views matter

Why are we collecting the data?
The results from the questionnaire will be used to support NHSE GIRFT duty under the Health and Social Care Act 2022 to protect and promote the interests of people who use health care services by promoting provision of health care services which are, inter alia, economic, efficient and effective.

NHSE GIRFT is a national programme overseen by NHS England that aims to  deliver quality improvement in patient outcomes through peer to peer discussion with clinicians and managers in Trusts and wider local partners.  It combines wide-ranging data analysis with the input and professional knowledge of clinicians to examine how things are currently being done and how they could be improved.

Results from the questionnaire will be used for only two purposes: (1) to support NHSE GIRFT deep dive or NHSE GIRFT implementation meetings in hospitals and networks; (2) to support recommendations in the NHSE GIRFT national specialty report.

What type and level of data are being collected?
The questionnaire will not collect patient identifiable information.  The questions cover both quantifiable and qualitative themes with some responses requesting a paragraph or two on a particular issue.  Most responses will be either yes/no or numbers, both of which NHSE GIRFT may use for benchmarking analysis.

The questionnaire may request the name and contact details of the person who submitted responses to allow NHSE GIRFT to follow-up for clarification of answers.

Who will access the data and how will it be further shared?
The results from the questionnaire will be stored within the secure IT environment managed by NHS England, and will never leave this environment. Data will be accessed only by a small number of NHSE GIRFT staff that have NHS England permission to use the secure NHS England IT environment. Data will be regularly backed up and will be stored until no longer required for the purpose of the implementation of NHSE GIRFT programme.  NHS England may also share the data internally within NHS England to support our wider efficiency and productivity programmes and delivery of all statutory responsibilities of Monitor and TDA.

Agreement
By filling in this questionnaire, you agree that NHSE GIRFT can use the data as described above.
